The Seashell and the Clergyman (La Coquille et le Clergyman. Germaine Dulac, France 1928, 40 mins)

This soundtrack is available on CD. Go to our Shop page or email info@minimamusic.co.uk.

This film is a rarely seen cult classic, taking you into a dream world of forbidden passion. An enigmatic little film, beautifully structured and immaculately edited, it was banned on release in the UK, with the BBFC declaring “this film is so cryptic as to be almost meaningless. If there is a meaning, it is doubtless objectionable.” This was Minima’s first film soundtrack - playing it extensively in 2006 and 2007, culminating in shows at the Barbican centre and the French Institute.
